Server owners

Install it on your server, decide which features your players get, and use the server-only extras.

Install and update

  • Put the mod's .jar in your server's mods folder and restart the server. Your players get the mod from the Steam Workshop.
  • The server and every player need the same version - players on a different version cannot join. When the mod updates, update the server too.

Settings

Your server's settings live in torvians-qol.cfg, next to the mod in the mods folder. The game creates it the first time the server starts with the mod. Every option is listed with a description. Restart the server after you change it.

  • Server settings (106 of them) are decided by your file, for everyone. A player's own copy of these is ignored on your server.
  • Player settings (46) are up to each player, in their own copy of the file.
  • The feature list marks every option as Server or Player, and you can filter it to show just one kind.
  • After an update, new options are added to the end of your file automatically, with their descriptions. Your choices are kept. Very rarely an update changes a setting on purpose - it always says so in the server log.

Login message

Show players a message in the middle of the screen when they join - your rules, a reset date, a welcome. Set login_motd=true, then write the message in torvians-qol-motd.txt next to the cfg (the file explains itself). Changes are picked up within a minute, no restart needed, and players close the message by clicking anywhere outside it. With no text in the file, no message is shown.

WriteTo get
$Header[Welcome!]the biggest text, for a title
$Title[Rules]slightly bigger text, for headings
$Color[#ff9900,some text]colored text (a hex color, a comma, then the text)
[item=healthpotion]an item's icon
:heart:an emote (also :star: :food: :checkmark: :cross:)
**bold**bold text

Color and size can be combined: $Title[$Color[#ccff00,A colored heading]].

Safe zone around spawn

Set safe_zone=true and a square around the world spawn point is protected: nobody can place or break anything inside it, except that trees can be chopped (they replant themselves) and berries and fruit can be picked. It is 400x400 tiles unless you change safe_zone_size, and it is drawn on the map as a red square. Admins can still build there (safe_zone_admin_bypass), and so can anyone you add with the commands below.

Commands

For the server owner, typed in chat or in the server console:

CommandDoes
/setworldspawn [x] [y]Moves the world spawn - to where you stand when you give no coordinates. This moves the safe zone too.
/safezoneadd <player>Lets that player build inside the safe zone.
/safezoneremove <player>Takes it away again.
/safezonelistLists who may build there.

Files

Besides torvians-qol.cfg, the mod keeps its data in torvians-qol-*.txt files in the same folder: the login message, the Public Blueprints and Public Drawings lists, who may build in the safe zone, and the colors of each world's drawings. Back them up together with your world - a world restored without them keeps its drawings, but they turn gray.
